Hello you,
I’m slowly emerging from the little blanket fort I built for myself around Winter Solstice. It’s been a December filled with quiet nights on the couch and days spent pottering around in the liminal in-between. Nothing in particular to achieve, just following the lead of my body as it nudged me toward what felt good and needed. A little bit of planning, a lot of naps. Fertile ground for letting dreams for the future emerge at their own pace.
Last year was a rocky one for my business. Massive life changes - buying a house, leaving London, moving in with my love, becoming a step parent - shook the ground beneath me (and shook up my nervous system), leaving me with very little capacity to give to this business of mine. Some years just require our energy budget to skew into the areas of our life that aren’t our work, and that’s okay.
I missed it though. It’s a relief to be stepping into this new year feeling more rooted. The identity crisis of last year has settled and in its absence there’s space to devote to my work.
I can’t wait to share everything I’ve got in store for 2024 (there are some biiiiig exciting plans afoot!), but let’s begin with what I have planned for this Substack in particular.
What to expect in 2024
Last year I wrestled with what my Substack was for. Was it a newsletter? A creative project? A marketing tool? I wibbled and wandered between those poles, experimenting with what felt right, what worked best.
There were times when I was a little too ambitious and wrote cheques that I couldn’t sustainably cash. There were times I set a rigid structure for what I would post, spanning out indefinitely into the future, and then my ADHD brain bucked against the imposition. Some things worked, some kinda worked. Some things I tried to make work but despite my best efforts they just didn’t.
As I sat in my little blanket fort over the festive period I started to synthesise all the things my floundering taught me. I figured out what’s staying and what needs to go. Here’s what I learned and what shape In Practice will take this year (or at least for the next little while)
What In Practice is –
A vehicle for communicating my perspectives on radical embodiment and magic making. It’s an intimate space, like we’re all in a room together chatting, and it’s a window into my experiences as I practice living a life of embodiment.
What it isn’t –
A place that will specifically discuss ways for you to become more embodied, or tune into your own magic. That’s reserved for my weekly newsletter series - The Wayward Almanac. It’s a guide to living in your body and trusting your magic.
If you’re a deeply-feeling creative, witch, or change maker who wants to finally get out of your (overthinking) head and step into full body magic, come join the list.
Embodying the Tarot is shapeshifting.
For the last year these love letters to the tarot have been the main focus of my writing here. No longer. Instead Embodying the Tarot is becoming a podcast. It’ll take a little pause first but then come spring I’ll start releasing regular episodes here on Substack.
New subscriber benefits
All subscribers (hello free subs - I love you and I’m so glad you’re here)
At least one essay a month with no paywall. My perspectives, hot takes, personal experiences, and rants about embodiment, magic, and liberation.
Regular instalments of my zine project, the A-Z of Breathwork, dropping in your inbox like a Sunday supplement.
Embodying the Tarot podcast (coming once the zine series is finished)
Paid subscribers
Live breathwork practices every month (and a library of replays). These were initially centred on the themes of Embodying the Tarot, but now the themes will arise as the year unfolds. Meaning that these practices can support you to meet whatever 2024 brings your way.
In these sessions we come together to breathe, get into our bodies, and bring tender awareness to what we find there. They were one of my favourite offerings in 2023 and I can’t wait to see how this community of brilliant, brave people grows this year.
A shiny new perk for 2024 – The Apothecary. Around the new moon I’ll be sending out a collection of practices, words, podcasts, music, food, and art that have felt like a salve that month. With the invitation to share your own so we can build a collective medicine cabinet.
January sale
And finally, I’m offering 20% off yearly subscriptions in January! I love to imagine what magic you might embody with twelve months of breathwork to support you.
A deeper connection to your body?
More trust in your intuition?
An expanded capacity to handle life’s ups and downs?
Whatever unfolds it’s a year of support for yourself which in turn supports my work here. Click below to join the circle and I’ll see you at our next practice!
PS - If 2024 is the year that you want to take your embodiment practice seriously, extended payment plans are now available for spring intake of The Intensive.
Book in a chat with me and let’s talk about how we could work together in the Spring.
