Hello you,
It’s new moon! It’s an eclipse in Aries! It’s Mercury Retrograde! The skies are wild right now! Whew. I hope you’ve got the space to go slow and be impeccably tender with yourself.
I’m just slipping in with a collection of the things that have been feeling like medicine in my world lately. Perhaps they’ll inspire you to notice and turn towards what feels healing to you too.
Oh and there’s also a generous handful of links and recommendations for what’s been inspiring me, nourishing me, and making me feel some kind of way. There’s nothing I love better about the internet than when it feels like underground word of mouth, passing our discoveries between ourselves.
I’d love to hear what is giving you joy or solace in your days right now. And/or what’s been delighting you of late. Drop a comment below and let’s create a communal medicine cabinet.
Good shit
The way the morning sun shines on our couch for fifteen perfect minutes so I can soak up some vitamin D with my coffee. The way the afternoon sun slips across our bed for four languid hours so I can nap in it. The fact that our cat Petal has come to expect either Joeli or I to nap with her in the sun each afternoon and will seek us out to demand it if we’re late. New books in the post. Returning to big plans for a new business after a couple of months focusing elsewhere. Flexible Office co-working twice a week with Cody Cook-Parrot’s bunch of creative misfits. Moving my body more. Remembering what it’s like to feel strong and capable. Getting etymologically nerdy about embodiment with Nicole Couthier on her podcast It’s All Poetry. Feeling myself thaw out and come back to life as the days grow longer and warmer. Going to bed early. Playing dress up and experimenting with my personal style. Saying no to everything that isn’t a fuck yes. Learning how freeing that constraint is.
Link Party
Someone in Flexible Office shared the link to Sonali Menezes’ Depression Cooking the other day and I love it, even without being depressed. Because some days I cannot bear to spend another moment thinking about what to eat but we’re in the business of surviving, baby.
Okay so I’m not technically child-free anymore now that I’m a step-parent but do you think I’m allowed to wear this HAG t-shirt from We Are Childfree anyway?
Ugh the briiiiiidge on this song by Palmyra. The way the beat kicks in. The growing spiralling manic feeling of it. It’s so good and I’m furious it’s not currently on Spotify so that I can put it on all my playlists.
Once upon a time I taught yoga at Supply, one of the coolest and most inspiring yoga studios in London. The studio doesn’t exist anymore (thanks for that global pandemic) and I miss it but thankfully Supply has a free archive of movement practices available, including some from past me! Go!
I loved this piece from Poke Acupuncture about spring and queerness. We might not agree about summer being terrible (though he lives in LA so we’re not on an even playing field of summer-ness) but I can get behind the wild queer love of spring’s resurrections.
This story of intuition, property destruction, breaking old patterns, and a startlingly adept cat has it all. It had me gasping and clutching my pearls and cackling with laughter in equal measure.
Every time ND Stevenson makes a comic about their transition it cracks my heart wide open. They write about their body so tenderly.
If I had a month of free time I would sit down and read my way through the whole of Jeannine Ouellette’s substack. Her writing is breathtaking. Jealousy inducing. Inspiring. So much so that I’ve joined her 12-week embodied writing challenge The Visceral Self and I can’t wait to see what unfolds.
What’s been feeling good and inspiring in your world, my friend? Drop a comment below and let’s share the medicine.
