Hello you,
There’s so much talk about nervous system regulation in the world these days. As a total body nerd who wishes everyone knew more about their bodies, I’m not mad about it. But one sneaky thing that I’ve noticed: regulation can often be bandied about in terms of calming yourself down. So that we’re encouraged to subtly police our emotions, and ‘regulate’ away any turbulence.
It’s certainly an easy trap to fall into. Because who wants to feel their uncomfortable feelings? Who wouldn’t prefer to be calm and centred all the time? I know I certainly used my embodiment practices to do just that. For years I focused on softening and calming myself down.
It was a valuable skill set to develop, but the problem is that I needed to widen the window. To expand my capacity for what I could experience without numbing out or disconnecting because it all felt like too much.
That’s the real version of regulation. To have the ability to move with your nervous system. Into activation, into rest, and back. To stay supple and stay with yourself in calm seas and big surf. Today’s zine is about my experience of learning to ride that wave.
And so let me present to you - today’s zine! You can also find a link to the pdf version here.
ps - if you want support in learning to ride your own nervous system, doors for my one-to-one embodiment programme Resourced are now open. Places are limited and early bird ends Friday. Use the code BODYMAGIC200 to get £200 off
